Small acts of care. Lasting native habitat.
People. Plants. Possibility.

A little sprout.
A little care.
A lasting home.

Foster a native plant. Help it grow. Give it a forever home. You don’t need a garden to help grow habitat.

Small plant. Bigger purpose.

You can help grow habitat.
Even without a place to plant.

Foster-a-Sprout connects people who can care for a young native plant with places where that plant can put down permanent roots.

Schools, care communities, families, and community groups all have a part to play. Keep your foster plant on site when there’s a suitable home, or send it forward to a Forever Habitat Home.

More than a plant

Everyone has
care to give.

Sometimes the person who receives care becomes the one giving it.

A small native plant can offer someone a chance to nurture, notice, and be part of something that continues beyond the activity. A name on a plant label. A new leaf. A photo from its forever home.

Simple moments, with somewhere meaningful to go.

Seed Share Vault

A forever home.
A new beginning.

Habitat can grow the next generation.

As native plants mature and produce seed, those seeds can be collected, cleaned, shared, and grown. The Seed Share Vault gives them a place to go, and a shared resource for the people who come next.

Our roots

Started by two people.
Grown by community.

We’re Brandon and Michelle. Foster-a-Sprout grew out of our work as Restoration Master Volunteers and the Native Plant Giveaway we founded. Both programs share a simple goal: make native plants and meaningful ways to help local habitat easier to access.

Native Plant Giveaway puts plants directly into people’s hands. Foster-a-Sprout opens another path for people who can care for a plant, even when its permanent home is somewhere else.

Growing together

Butterfly Pavilion has supported Foster-a-Sprout with staff expertise, educational resources, and participation at community sites. In our first year, they incorporated the program into three Healthy Habitats sites.
